The WA Tree Recovery Program
The WA Tree Recovery Program has been established to replant thousands of trees removed due to Polyphagous shot-hole borer (PSHB) .
As part of the Program, a rebate of up to $150 per tree removed, is available for people impacted by PSHB.
Claims open 28 July 2025 and are set to close in late 2028.
This program is only available to people who have had a tree removed from their property due to PSHB under the authority of the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD). Please ensure you’ve checked the eligibility below before purchasing a replacement tree.
Eligibility criteria of the WA Tree Recovery Program
The WA Tree Recovery Program is available to Western Australian residents aged 18 years or older, who:
- Have had a tree removed from their residential property under DPIRD authorisation for the Polyphagous shot-hole borer on or after 18 November 2021
- Have a unique Tree ID issued by DPIRD, and
- Have purchased an eligible replacement tree/s and establishment item/s in one transaction.
Claims for this program require a photo of your replacement tree’s plant label, and one itemised tax invoice that shows:
- Business name
- Australian Business Number (ABN)
- Tax invoice number
- Total value (including GST)
- Purchase date
- Itemised tree and establishment items.
Please note that the tax invoice must not be handwritten or have handwritten additions such as a date or ABN.
Please note that a standard receipt or EFTPOS receipt won’t be enough for your claim.
What is meant by an eligible replacement tree?
Some trees aren’t eligible for the WA Tree Recovery Program rebate, such as trees that are extremely susceptible to PSHB.
These are:
- box elder maple (Acer negundo),
- coral tree (Erythrina x sykesii),
- robinia, black locust, mop top (Robinia pseudoacacia).
Trees identified as weeds or declared pests under the Biosecurity and Agriculture Management Act 2007 are also not eligible.
How to claim the WA Tree Recovery Program offer in the ServiceWA app
The ServiceWA app is the fastest, most secure and most convenient way to claim the WA Tree Recovery Program rebate.
To make your claim:
- Buy an eligible replacement tree and establishment items in one transaction from a commercial Western Australian nursery or retailer.
- Plant the tree on your property.
- Have your unique Tree ID on hand.
- Photograph of the tax invoice and the plant label.
- Log in to ServiceWA with your Digital ID (myID), at a Standard identity strength.
- Visit the Discovery tab and click on the Offers tile
- Select the WA Tree Recovery Program Offer
- Read through the terms and conditions and if you agree, start your claim.
- Once you’ve submitted your claim, you’ll receive a message in your ServiceWA app Inbox with your claim reference number.

Alternative ways to claim the WA Tree Recovery Program offer
If you are unable to claim through the ServiceWA app, you can claim via a paper claim form. Download, complete and post with
- Copies of your identity documents to meet 100 points of ID from the examples provided
- A photocopy of your valid tax invoice
- A photocopy of the tree tag

Paper claim forms may take up to 30 days to be processed. If you submit a paper form, you will receive updates sent from support@digital.wa.gov.au to your nominated email address.
Please note that paper claim forms submitted via other channels, like email, cannot be accepted.

What is the maximum rebate I can claim?
Show moreEligible Western Australians can claim up to $150 per tree removed, which includes the purchase of a replacement tree and any eligible tree establishment costs (e.g. soil, soil improver, mulch, additional trees).
For example, if you spend $180 on a replacement tree, you will receive $150. If you spend $10 on a tree and $40 on soil improver, totalling $50, you will receive $50.

Do I need to replace the PSHB tree with a tree or can I buy a smaller shrub?
Show moreThe purpose of the WA Tree Recovery Program is to replace tree canopy that was lost due to PSHB.
A tree is defined as having a canopy over three metres in height at maturity.
Shrubs and ground covers are not eligible for a rebate.
Please ask your nursery or garden centre for help with selecting a tree if you are unsure.
Can I claim any items to help with establishing my replacement trees?

- soil
- soil improver
- fertiliser
- mulch
- soil wetting agent
- tree supports (stakes and guards)
- additional eligible trees.
The tree and establishment items must be purchased in one transaction and be itemised on one tax invoice.
Do I have to buy a tree from a specific nursery?
Show moreYou can buy a tree and establishment items from any Western Australian commercial nursery or retailer.
Make sure that you buy the tree and establishment items in one purchase so that they are on the one itemised tax invoice.
Please also ensure that you have the plant label.
Private purchases made through Facebook Marketplace, Gumtree or classifieds are not eligible for a rebate.
What documents and information do I need to make a claim?

Tree ID
Each tree removed will have a unique Tree ID. If you have had multiple trees removed on your property you will have a different unique Tree ID for each tree.
If trees were removed from your property between 18 November 2021 and 14 July 2025, unique Tree IDs were mailed to your address prior to program launch on 28 July 2025. If you do not have this letter, please email DPIRD via pshb@dpird.wa.gov.au to request your unique Tree ID.- A tax invoice as proof of tree purchase that shows the:
- Business name
- Australian Business Number (ABN)
- Tax invoice number
- Total value (including GST)
- Purchase date
- Itemised tree and establishment itemsPhoto of the plant label that shows the replacement tree name (species and/or common name).
The tree and establishment items must be purchased in one transaction and be on one tax invoice. The tax invoice must not be handwritten or have handwritten additions such as a date or ABN.
Why do I need to have a DPIRD unique Tree ID to be able to claim?

What happens if I purchased a replacement tree after the launch of the WA Tree Recovery Program on 28 July 2025 and have lost my tax invoice. Can I still claim?
Show moreA tax invoice is required to make a claim. You are not eligible for a rebate if you purchase a replacement tree after the launch of the program and do not have a valid tax invoice.
When purchasing a replacement tree, ask for an itemised tax invoice. It can be hardcopy or digital. If it is a hardcopy, you will need to take a photo of the tax invoice and upload it to the ServiceWA app when submitting your claim.
The tax invoice must not be handwritten or have handwritten additions such as a date or ABN.
Why do I need a photo of the plant label?
Show moreA photo of the plant label is required to show that you purchased an eligible tree.
If there is no plant label on the pot, there might be one on the shelf where the plants are displayed. Ask the nursery or garden centre staff for help if you are unsure.
How will I know the outcome of my claim?
Show moreOnce you submit a claim through the ServiceWA app, you’ll receive a notification in your ServiceWA Inbox confirming your submission, along with your claim reference number.
All future updates about your WA Tree Recovery Program claim will also be sent to your ServiceWA Inbox.
To ensure you don’t miss any important updates, please make sure you enable app email and push notifications in ServiceWA.
If you submitted a paper form claim, you will receive updates on your claim via email from support@digital.wa.gov.au
How long will it take to receive my payment?
Show moreSuccessful claims will see payments delivered to your nominated bank account within approximately seven working days.
Claimants will receive a ServiceWA Inbox message notifying when their claim has been approved.
Processing times for paper form claims may take up to 30 days. Paper form claims will receive an email from support@digital.wa.gov.au to their nominated email address.
It is possible that your payment may be delivered to your bank account before you receive a notification. Please check your bank account regularly
I have only had the affected branches pruned, but I would like to buy and establish a new tree in case DPIRD decide to remove my tree later? Can I claim now or do I need to wait for the affected tree to be removed first?

You cannot claim unless your tree has been removed under DPIRD authority.
If the tree is removed in the future, DPIRD will provide you with a unique Tree ID, which can be used to claim a rebate.
There was a tree removed on my verge due to PSHB and I would like a replacement. Can I purchase a replacement tree and claim the rebate?
