Non-Compliance with the State Records Act 2000

A matter of non-compliance with the State Records Act 2000 (Act) occurs when a person or a government organisation does not comply with the Act or principles and standards established by the State Records Commission under section 61 of the Act.

For more information about reporting a matter of non-compliance, please see Reporting matters of non-compliance with the State Records Act 2000

Damage to or Loss of State Records

State organisations must report to the SRO any damage to or loss of the physical or digital State records in their custody.

Physical (hard copy) records may be destroyed or irreparably damaged due to fire, flood, mould or pests. Digital records may be accidentally deleted or lost because of cyber incidents or system failures. Organisations must report these incidents to the SRO, whether they occurred intentionally or accidentally.
