How do I apply for an exemption from providing Certificate III CPP30619

If you are applying for an Investigator Licence, you may seek an exemption from completing CPP30619 Certificate III in Investigative Services.

You will need to provide proof you have obtained compatible qualifications and experience relevant to this application.

Your request will be reviewed and considered, and the result will be provided to you in writing

Am I eligible?

You can check that you are eligible to obtain a security licence by attending our Cannington Office with your photo ID. If you live more than 50km from Perth CBD you can bring photo ID to your nearest Country Police Station and have them call us while you are there. If you have a disqualifying offence, the disqualification period starts from the date of the court outcome, NOT the date of the offence.

How do I update my licence information?

If you update any of your personal details you must advise us. This includes changes to your name, address, phone number and email address. Complete Change of personal details form LSF111 (PDF, 383KB) and email to LicensingServices@police.wa.gov.au

What if my licence has expired?

An expired licence cannot be renewed. A new application is now required.

It expired less than 6 months ago

If your licence expired less than 6 months ago, you will need to submit a new application, but you will not be required to recomplete the training and tests.

It expired more than 6 months ago

If your licence expired more than 6 months ago, you will need to submit a new application, recomplete the tests, and also ensure you have the most current training. To ensure you have the most recent training, you will need to reach out to one of the registered training organisations listed on our website.

Can I align my licence expiries?

If you have multiple licences that expire at different times, you can align their expiries when you come to renew one of them. We will renew the licence until the expiry of the other licence.

However, there is no reduced fee, so you will be paying for a 3-year licence but only receiving around 1-2 years on the licence.

The licence will expire before the 3-year mark, because it will now be aligned with the other licence, and expire when that one expires.

How do I get copies of my licences/ID card?

There is a fee for duplicate licences and ID cards:

  1. You can email the Credit card payment form LSS65 (PDF, 82KB) to securitylicensing@police.wa.gov.au, and we will post your licences/ID card to you.
  2. You can pay at our Cannington Office and we will immediately print the licences/ID card and give them to you.

How much will my licences cost?

To see the cost for each licence types, see the fees list

Mutual recognition fees are the same as new application fees.

Do I need a police clearance?

If you answer “Yes” to ANY of the below questions, then you will need a police clearance from the country you were residing in.

  • Did you arrive in Australia less than 5 years ago?
  • In the last 5 years, have you spent more than 12 months in another country?

If you do require a police clearance, it needs to check the following criteria:

  • It needs to be from the whole country you lived in, not just the state or district.
  • It needs to be dated after you arrived in Australia OR no more than 3 months before you arrived in Australia.

If you are unsure if your Police Clearance will be accepted, you can email it to us with the date that you arrived in Australia, and we can confirm if it meets the legislative requirements.

What if my country doesn’t issue police clearances?

Unfortunately, if your country does not issue Police Clearances, you will have to wait to apply. Once you have lived in Australia for 5 years you will then be able to apply without the requirement of a police clearance.

What if I am doing Mutual Recognition from New Zealand?

If you are mutually recognising your New Zealand Security Licence, you will need a police clearance that meets the above criteria.

How do I complete the pre-licence tests?

If you live within 50km of Perth CBD, you will need to complete the test at our Cannington Office. Tests can be sat from 8.00am to 2.00pm weekdays and no appointment is required.

  • Security Officer
  • Security Monitoring Officer
  • Security Bodyguard

Things to note:

  • We CANNOT mutually recognise any agent, company, or master licences.
  • Mutual recognition fees are the same as new application fees.
