Transfer or sell optional vehicle plates

You need to complete a form that transfers the right to display optional plates within 14 days after sale.
Last updated:

Submit the form with the plates and Certificate of Right to Display and Trade at a Driver and Vehicle Services Centre or regional agent.

Whoever is buying the plates, must also submit a copy of the form and pay the required transfer fee.

Optional plates are not automatically transferred to new owners as part of a vehicle licence transfer. The new owner must also complete the form so they can display the plates.

If you are selling a vehicle but want to keep your optional plates, you need to visit a Driver and Vehicle Services Centre or regional agent with the plates and current vehicle licence documents.
