Light bulb of innovation and thought

Expressions of Interest are now open for Defence, industry, start-ups and Publicly Funded Research Organisations to participate in the Innovation Pitchfest occurring Thursday 12 May 2022 during the Indo-Pacific 2022 International Maritime Exposition.

This is your chance to present your new products and developmental projects to an audience of potential customers, research partners and investors.

This event will consist of three-minute pitches aimed at demonstrating Australian innovation, research collaboration and the development strengths of your idea or research project. Pitches should not be simply a sales pitch and should instead seek to demonstrate:

  • Uniqueness and novelty (ie your innovation).
  • Application or end goal of the innovation.
  • Where future collaboration may be of benefit (and with whom).

The Royal Australian Navy’s Warfare Innovation Branch will be in attendance and are seeking technology challenges which answer:

  1. How does the Navy gain a greater understanding of the oceanographic and hydrographic environment whilst minimising personnel resources? How do we best process, exploit and disseminate the data?

  2. How can Navy utilise advanced gaming technology to revolutionise warfare training?

  3. How best can Australian Industry support Navy with the development and evolution of advanced robotic and autonomous system of systems?

Given the theme of the Expo, ideas which address these topics will be given priority when assessing the EOIs, however presentations outside these themes are still encouraged.

Successful applicants will be offered training in the art of delivering the perfect pitch. This training is provided free of charge.

Pitchers are encouraged to take advantage of the fast-paced atmosphere and engage the audience with their presentation. Presentations will be judged by an expert panel to award a custom trophy for:

  • Best Overall Pitch
  • Best Overall Innovation
  • Most Relevant to the Maritime Domain

Western Australian researches and companies participated in the 2021 Land Forces Innovation Pitchfest and produced the second-strongest cohort of state entrees, including winning the 'Best Overall Pitch' category! You can review these fantastic pitches on the Defence West Announcement Page.

Expressions of Interest are to be submitted online via the application portal (external link).

Applications will be open until early April 2022 or until the event is fully subscribed.
