Community organisations and local governments are encouraged to branch out and apply for grants as part of the State Government's Community Garden Grants Program.
Grants provided through the program support the establishment and development of sustainable and edible community gardens in Western Australia.
The Department of Communities provides grants of up to $10,000 to support Western Australian community gardens projects and the latest round of grants have now opened.
Uniquely, this year’s program coincides with National Community Gardens Day. On this day, community gardens are invited to open their gates to welcome visitors and demonstrate the benefits that community gardening provides.
Successful grant applications support the establishment and development of community gardens that encourage community participation, connection with nature and the environment, and opportunities for people to develop skills and give back to their community.
35 projects were funded across Western Australia under the 2024-25 program, including the City of Mandurah, who were awarded $10,000 for the Grow It Local Mandurah project, helping to bolster understanding of the benefits of edible growing at home.
The Exmouth Community Garden was awarded $9,700 to work with local Aboriginal people to share knowledge of local bush tucker and medicinal plants.
Organisations can request up to $10,000 per project to support a wide range of garden-related items and services; from plants, seedlings and fertiliser, to gardening planning, design and training services.
Further information on the Community Gardens Grants Program is available on the Department of Communities Community Gardens Grants Program page.
Applications close on 3:00pm Friday 28 November 2025.
