Brendan Shane McLaughlin was caught on surveillance cameras on 16 October 2020 unloading household waste on Dalison Road in Henderson.

He was caught on camera again, 15 days later, on 31 October, dumping more waste at the same site.

The site is an area commonly used for the unlawful dumping of waste.

When questioned, Mr McLaughlan told investigating officers he was moving house and could not afford to go to the local waste facility at the time.

He appeared in the Fremantle Magistrates Court on 7 May 2021 and was fined $2,200 for both offences and ordered to pay costs of $783.50.

DWER Executive Director Compliance and Enforcement, Stuart Cowie, said taking this waste to a local waste facility would have been the right course of action to take.

“He has ended up with a hefty fine and a court conviction against his name,” Mr Cowie said.

“The message here is that we are watching, so do the right thing. If you illegally dump waste  and we catch up with you, expect a costly day in court.”
