Community organisations across Western Australia are invited to make this year’s International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) a celebration to remember.

The Department of Communities has funded Developmental Disability WA (DDWA) to provide 100 grants of up to $1,000 to host inclusive community events and activities.

This funding aligns with the vision of A Western Australia for Everyone: State Disability Strategy 2020-2030 to build a more inclusive WA and raise awareness of the importance of welcoming, accessible and inclusive communities.

Organisations based or operating in WA, including local government authorities, community groups and non-government/not-for-profit organisations, are eligible to apply for funding.

Events held in previous years have included festivals, forums, sporting events, workshops, picnics and art exhibitions, which encourage community connection and bring people of all abilities together to celebrate.

Applications close on 15 September 2025. For more information or to apply visit the DDWA website.

IDPwD is held each year on 3 December to acknowledge and celebrate the contributions, achievements and leadership of people with disability, while promoting awareness in the broader community of their experiences, ensuring they feel engaged in our communities and empowered to live their best lives.

Sanctioned by the United Nations, the day is an opportunity for individuals and the broader community to make positive changes to the lives of the 515,600 Western Australians with disability.

WA’s dedicated theme is ‘Celebrating our Unity’ which recognises that by working together we achieve better outcomes for people of all abilities and honours the knowledge and experience of people with disability.
