Up to 40 Aboriginal households can now apply for home ownership in South Hedland.
The Hedland Aboriginal Home Ownership Program will provide working families with:
- an affordable rental property
- access to a range of services that focus on employment, education, financial independence, household management and wellbeing.
The Department of Communities has engaged with Bloodwood Tree Association Inc. and Foundation Housing to deliver the initiative, which will increase independence, improve wellbeing and effect intergenerational change for Aboriginal families.
Bloodwood Tree Association Inc. will provide support services to help participants move towards home ownership while also improving wellbeing, employment opportunities and financial independence, as well as their children’s engagement with school.
Foundation Housing has been engaged to provide property and tenancy management to the homes and will support participants to increase their understanding and preparedness of independent housing options.
Kelly Howlett, Chief Executive Officer of Bloodwood Tree Association Inc. said the agency looks forward to supporting those who participate in the program.
“This is a never before offered opportunity for low to medium income householders in Hedland.
“It is really important that households are able to continue to better themselves and the situation of their family. There is no better way to do so, than to purchase your own family home and truly cement a safe, stable environment.”
The Hedland Aboriginal Home Ownership Program is an expansion of the Transitional Housing Program and has been made possible due to investment by the North-West Aboriginal Housing Fund.
