The 10-year State Disability Strategy was developed following a whole-of-community consultation process and highlights four key pillars:
- Rights and equality
- Inclusive communities
- Participate and contribute
- Living well
The Strategy commits State Government agencies, disability service providers, industry and community organisations to targets and changes in line with the actions underpinning the Strategy.
Since the implementation of the First Action Plan, government, the sector, communities and individuals have actively worked to improve opportunities, outcomes and the quality of life for people with disability.
Establishing an Office of Disability, launch of the Autism Alert Card and NDIS Worker Screening Check, training to increase the number of qualified Behaviour Support Practitioners, and accessible infrastructure projects like the Kids’ Bridge (Koolangka Bridge), connecting Perth Children’s Hospital to Kings Park, are just some of the great initiatives achieved to date.
An Annual Report outlining achievements under the Strategy is published each year.
The Second Action Plan contains 142 actions and commitments to protect, uphold and advance the rights of people with disability living in WA.
