TAC Special Bulletin - Snapshot of compliance trends

News story
The Council has released their Snapshot of Compliance Trends
Last updated:

The Council has released their Snapshot of Compliance Trends that provides a summary of compliance levels in clauses from Standard 1 of the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) 2015. These Clauses are routinely audited by the Council and align to focus areas in the Council's Regulatory Strategy and Education Program.

Encouragingly, between 1 July 2018 and 30 June 2021 the Snapshot demonstrates:

  • Compliance at main audit has increased by 22%;
  • Compliance has increased in clauses related to training and assessment meeting the requirements of the training package or accredited course and duration of training; (Clauses 1.1, 1.2 and 1.8)
  • Levels of compliance have remained steady in relation to Clauses 1.3 and 1.13; and
  • Significant increases in stakeholder participation in the TAC Education Program.

The Council attributes improvement in compliance outcomes to a number of factors including:

  • Many RTOs have been registered with the Council for significant periods of time and have developed a level of understanding of the requirements of the Standards and RTO compliance obligations;
  • In the main, RTOs have embedded quality by implementing internal audit and continuous improvement activities;
  • RTO staff capability including access to professional development in relation to VET teaching and learning, vocational competency and current industry skills; and
  • The increase in the number and range of offerings provided by the Council’s education program to support RTO quality.

TAC RTOs have requested information that assists their understanding of their performance and compliance relative to other RTOs. Audits are one of the tools TAC uses to monitor RTO performance against the Standards, and offer a point-in-time insight into the quality of training and assessment services being provided. This Snapshot is provided directly to TAC RTOs to aid in the evaluation of their performance and continuous improvement in their training and assessment practices.
