This is the 52nd year of the flagship program, which acknowledges sustainable, litter-free communities by celebrating initiatives such as litter prevention, environmental education, preserving heritage, community action and youth leadership.

The seven 2021 award categories include:

  • Litter prevention and waste management
  • General appearance
  • Community action and wellbeing
  • Environmental sustainability
  • Environmental education
  • Heritage and culture
  • Young legends.

One community will be named the overall State winner.

A community will also be recognised with the Containers for Change award for most effectively using their 10-cent container deposit scheme refunds, and a Leadership Award will be given to an outstanding community leader.

The Keep Australia Beautiful Council Tidy Towns Sustainable Communities Awards are funded by the State Government through the Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery Account, administered by the Waste Authority, and are also supported by the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation, Main Roads Western Australia, Natsales, Australian Institute of Management WA, WA Return Recycle Renew Limited and Vanguard Press.

Winners will be announced at a lunch at Optus Stadium on Friday, 26 November 2021.

“For more than 50 years, these awards have showcased the important work taking place in our State’s regional and remote communities and encouraged friendly competition between towns.
