WA Foster and Family Carers Week (28 July – 3 August) is an annual event to acknowledge and celebrate the dedication of foster and family carers from across the State.

It's a chance to say "thank you" for the enormous contribution foster and family carers make in the lives of children in their care, and wider community.

Department of Communities offices across WA will mark the week with local celebrations and activities to recognise and show appreciation to local carers in their area. The State Government is also offering foster care families free passes to Perth Zoo, WA Museum Boola Bardip and WA Maritime Museum.

The week also provides an important opportunity to highlight the ongoing need for more foster carers across WA.

To help raise awareness about the week, a poster and email signature banner is available to download below.

About foster care

Foster carers can come from all walks of life.

It doesn’t matter if you rent or own your home, or if you are single, partnered or married. You may live in the city, small town or a rural or remote community and work part time, full time or not at all.

You don’t need to have children of your own to be a carer. Support is provided every step of the way – all you need is an open heart.

For more information about foster care, visit the Foster Care website.
