New public toilet at Esplanade Train Station

Esplanade Train Station now has a new public toilet.

Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan said today that, in response to a steady flow of community requests, she had asked the Public Transport Authority to build a toilet at Esplanade Station.

"Though the international trend is directed away from having public toilets at stations, the feedback Transperth was getting from customers suggested that lots of people wanted it," Ms MacTiernan said. 

"We saw the popularity of the facilities at Subiaco Station and have constructed similar amenities on the Esplanade forecourt.

"It is completely self-contained with automatic flushing and hand-wash facilities.  There is a single cubicle for use by men or women, plus a disabled toilet.

"The doors operate on a time-lock - they will not stay closed for more than 20 minutes at a time."

The Minister said there were already toilets at the adjoining Esplanade Busport and the western concourse of Perth Station, as well as the City of Perth toilets on the eastern concourse of Perth Station.
