Privacy Collection Notice
The Department of Local Government, Industry Regulation and Safety (LGIRS) collects personal information to:
- administer motor vehicle dealer and repairer licensing functions;
- process applications, renewals, certifications;
- process changes to existing authorisations;
- administer permit and exemption approvals;
- undertake compliance, investigation, audit and enforcement activities.
Your personal information is collected under the provisions of the Motor Vehicle Repairers Act 2003, Motor Vehicle Repairers Regulations 2007, Motor Vehicle Dealers Act 1973, Motor Vehicle Dealers (Licensing) Regulations 1974.
Your information may be included in an online license search, a publicly available register, disclosed to relevant government agencies, regulatory bodies, training organisations, employers, police check providers, and other third parties where authorised or required by law, including for verification, compliance, investigation, enforcement, or audit purposes.

You need to notify us if you are a motor vehicle dealer, repairer or car market operator and you plan to:
- add a new premises to your licence;
- move your business to a new location; or
- stop operating from a current premises.
An authorised premises is a location or vehicle that has been approved and issued with a Certificate of Authorised Premises (CAP).
To lodge an application
- Complete all of the relevant sections of the application form.
- Attach/pay the correct fee. This is payable at the time of lodging the application.
- Sign the authorisation and declaration section of the form. This applies to all directors/partners or the sole trader.
