The Exmouth Gulf Taskforce’s final advice and recommendations to the Minister for the Environment under its Terms of Reference
Last updated:

The Exmouth Gulf Taskforce has delivered its Final Report with advice and recommendations to the Minister for the Environment. The Final Report, in conjunction with the Interim Report, fulfils the Taskforce’s Terms of Reference, with its scope being:

  • Delivery of a report that addresses the information gaps on Exmouth Gulf and it surrounds; and
  • Specific advice and recommendations including:
    • options to deliver a high level of protection for the Cape Range Subterranean Waterways;
    • options to deliver long-term integrated management of the land and sea, including the establishment of a secure marine reserve over the wider Gulf area that does not adversely impact existing managed commercial fisheries; and adequately considers recreational and charter fishing; and
    • options to inform terrestrial and marine protection planning processes.

The Exmouth Gulf Taskforce engaged the Western Australian Marine Science Institution (WAMSI) to undertake a knowledge gap review, in alignment with the Taskforce’s Terms of Reference. The WAMSI Knowledge review of Exmouth Gulf and prioritisation of future research and the Appendices complement the Taskforce’s Final Report and provides important information on the marine environment, climate and key conservation significant species and habitats in the Exmouth Gulf and its surrounds.
