The Department of Housing and Works operates across the construction, property finance and human services sectors to create affordable housing opportunities for people who would otherwise have difficulty accessing appropriate housing.

The Department of Housing and Works works in partnership with the private, government and not-for-profit sectors to deliver social housing across Perth and in regional and remote WA. This includes:

  • direct management of more than 36,000 public housing dwellings, and approximately 8,000 dwellings in partnership with community housing organisations
  • managing approximately 5,000 properties for Government employees under the Government Regional Officer Housing (GROH) Program
  • providing housing for 122 Aboriginal communities in remote locations throughout the state
  • constructing new social housing and overseeing the maintenance and refurbishment of social housing properties.

A range of government products and initiatives are also available to assist Western Australians into home ownership.
