The Practice Standards for Perpetrator Intervention have been reviewed and updated and are available:
First published in 2015, the Practice Standards focused on men's family and domestic violence behaviour change programs and outlined best practice for services that respond to men using violence, prioritise victim-survivors, promote perpetrator accountability and support opportunities for behaviour change.
A comprehensive review was initiated in 2025 as part of the Strengthening Responses to Family and Domestic Violence System Reform Plan 2024-2029, which identified the need for clear practice standards and strengthened responses to people who use violence.
The updated Practice Standards reflect changes in the family and domestic violence legislative, policy and practice environments and expand their application beyond men’s behaviour change programs to a broader range of perpetrator interventions.
The Practice Standards:
- prioritise the safety of women and children
- promote accountability of the perpetrator
- describe how systems and services work together
- strengthen cultural responsiveness.
The Practice Standards translate the principles and expectations of the Perpetrator Response Framework into practice, supporting consistent, evidence-informed and effective responses to people who use family and domestic violence across Western Australia.
