About
The Western Australian (WA) Government's $50 million Local Battery Manufacturing Program (the Program) aims to strengthen WA's manufacturing sector.
The Program is designed to primarily support the local manufacturing of residential batteries and battery components, as well as industrial and commercial applications, increasing WA's industry participation in battery energy storage supply chains.
Through the delivery of grants and low-interest loans, the Program seeks to reduce barriers to market entry and growth, enabling a more sustainable and competitive battery energy storage industry in Western Australia.
Funding streams
The Program considers and targets different levels of production maturity through differentiated grant and loan streams. Low-interest loans will be launched at a later stage as part of the program’s ongoing support once details are finalised. The grant streams, now available, are:
The Production-Ready Stream provides up to $100,000 in matched funding to businesses for projects in three categories of pre-production activities. These are precursors to the manufacturing of batteries and battery components at scale and include selected feasibility studies, prototype development and testing and accreditation.
The Production Scale-Up Stream provides up to $5 million in matched funding to existing battery manufacturers for projects that scale-up their operations, including through purchase of capital equipment, workforce training, costs associated with upgrading existing or new premises, and engaging business or manufacturing expertise.
