This workshop focuses on drafting Works tender and contract documentation, contract administration, project management and/or management of contracts in general.

This course offers a comprehensive introduction to contract law in the building and construction industry. The course delivers practical instruction regarding concepts of contract law and explores statute law, common law and the contract. The purpose of the course is to teach participants to understand how contracts are formed and administered.

Who is this training suitable for?

This workshop is suitable for WA Public Sector employees involved in Works procurement processes including contract management.

You will learn

You will gain practical skills and knowledge to assist in contract formation and contract management to support a successful works procurement process:

  • Contract Law
  • Nature of a Contract (Lump Sum, Schedule of Rates, Cost Plus)
  • Legal Status of Tender Documents
  • General Conditions of Contract such as AS2124 and AS4000
  • Variations
  • Extensions of Time
  • Delay and Disruption Costs
  • Liquidation Damages and Penalties

Please note that this training is provided by the Department of Finance and funded for state public sector employees and Government Trading Enterprises. However, we encourage those in local government to submit an expression of interest. This will form a waitlist for sessions that have low enrolments, we will contact you when places become available.
