Local Capability Fund

The Local Capability Fund (LCF) provides businesses with access to funding to improve capacity and competitiveness.


The LCF helps small and medium enterprises in Western Australia to increase their capability, capacity and competitiveness as suppliers of products, services and works to the Western Australian Government, major projects and other important markets.

The fund can be used for expenses such as:

  • making improvements to internal infrastructure, plant and equipment
  • training
  • meeting pre-qualification requirements for supply-chain entry
  • buying and upgrading essential equipment
  • engaging consultants to advise on matters including occupational health and safety, marketing, finance and cybersecurity
  • planning improvements to internal infrastructure, plant and equipment and training.

The Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation administers the Local Capability Fund.

Pilbara Regional Round

This round closes on 20 January 2023 and is only open to businesses mainly located in the Pilbara region.

The objective of this round is to provide funding support to Western Australian businesses to enhance their capacity, capability and competitiveness to participate as suppliers of products, services and works to state or local government agencies, the Australian Government and the private sector.

The level of funding support under the Pilbara Regional Round is 75 per cent of eligible costs (excluding GST) up to a maximum funding level of $20,000 per successful applicant.

The round opens on 9 November and closes at 3pm AWST, 20 January 2023.

Great Southern Regional Round

This round closes on 13 January 2023 and is only open to businesses mainly located in the Great Southern region.

The objective of this round is to provide funding support to Western Australian businesses to enhance their capacity, capability and competitiveness to participate as suppliers of products, services and works to state or local government agencies, the Australian Government and the private sector.

The level of funding support under the Great Southern Regional Round is 75 per cent of eligible costs (excluding GST) up to a maximum funding level of $20,000 per successful applicant.

The round opens on 3 November and closes at 3pm AWST, 13 January 2023.

Kimberley Regional Round

Total Solar Eclipse Round

The objective of the Total Solar Eclipse Round is to provide funding support to enhance the capability and capacity of SMEs in the north west of Western Australia who are expected to be significantly impacted by the total solar eclipse event on 20 April 2021.

The round opens on 30 August and closes on 4 October 2022.

Supplying Key Major Projects Round

The objective of the Supplying Key Major Projects Round is to assist Western Australian SMEs to improve their capability and capacity to supply to major State Government civil construction and infrastructure projects as found in the Pipeline of Work or other key public and private sector projects. The Pipeline of Work initiative is a continually updated 4-year listing of WA Government infrastructure projects throughout the state. This information will help industry engage with the WA Government on key issues such as local capacity, training and skills requirements, and scheduling of projects.

The level of funding support under the Supplying Key Major Projects Round is 75% of eligible costs (excluding GST) up to a maximum funding level of $50,000 per successful applicant.

National and International Standards Compliance Round
