Local Capability Fund

The Local Capability Fund (LCF) provides WA businesses with access to funding to improve capacity and competitiveness.


The LCF helps small and medium enterprises in Western Australia to increase their capability, capacity and competitiveness as suppliers of products, services and works to the Western Australian Government, major projects and other important markets.

The fund can be used for expenses such as:

  • Improvements to internal infrastructure, plant and equipment.
  • Training.
  • Meeting pre-qualification requirements for supply-chain entry.
  • Buying and upgrading essential equipment. 
  • Engaging consultant advice on a range of matters, including occupational health and safety, marketing, finance and cybersecurity. planning, improvements to internal infrastructure, plant and equipment and training.

The Local Capability Fund is administered by the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation. 

There are 5 rounds available in 2022-23.

South West Regional Round

This round closes 1 November 2022 and is only open to business predominately located in the South West.

The objective of the South West Regional Round is to provide Western Australian businesses in the South West region with funding support to enhance their capacity, capability and competitiveness to participate as suppliers of products, services and works to Western Australian State or Local Government agencies, the Australian Government and the private sector. 

The level of funding support under the South West Regional Round is 75% of eligible costs (excluding GST) up to a maximum funding level of $20,000 per successful applicant.

The round opens on 20 September and closes on 1 November 2022.

Total Solar Eclipse Round

The round opens on 30 August and closes on 4 October 2022.

The objective of the Total Solar Eclipse Round is to provide funding support to enhance the capability and capacity of SMEs in the north west of Western Australia who are expected to be significantly impacted by the total solar eclipse event on 20 April 2021.

The level of funding support under the Total Solar Eclipse Round is 75% of eligible costs (excluding GST) up to a maximum funding level of $25,000 per successful applicant.

The round opens on 30 August and closes on 4 October 2022.

Aboriginal Business Round

The objective of the Aboriginal Business Round is to provide state-wide Western Australian Aboriginal businesses with funding support to enhance their capacity, capability and competitiveness as suppliers of products, services and works to Western Australian or Local Government agencies; the Australian Government and the private sector.

The level of funding support under the Aboriginal Business Round is 75% of eligible costs (excluding GST) up to a maximum funding level of $50,000 per successful applicant.

Supplying Key Major Projects Round

The objective of the Supplying Key Major Projects Round is to assist Western Australian SMEs to improve their capability and capacity to supply to major State Government civil construction and infrastructure projects as found in the Pipeline of Work or other key public and private sector projects. The Pipeline of Work initiative is a continually updated 4-year listing of WA Government infrastructure projects throughout the state. This information will help industry engage with the WA Government on key issues such as local capacity, training and skills requirements, and scheduling of projects.

The level of funding support under the Supplying Key Major Projects Round is 75% of eligible costs (excluding GST) up to a maximum funding level of $50,000 per successful applicant.

National and International Standards Compliance Round

The objective of the National and International Standards Compliance Round is to assist Western Australian SMEs with the costs of engaging external expertise to carry out the implementation and third party certification of national and international standards.

The level of funding support under the National and International Standards Compliance Round of the LCF is 75% of eligible costs (excluding GST) up to a maximum of $20,000 per successful applicant.

Total Solar Eclipse, Local Capability Fund now open

A new round of the Local Capability Fund (LCF) is now open to assist local businesses in the North West to build up their capability and capacity ahead of the Total Solar Eclipse event on 20 April 2023.
