What support will I receive?

As part of the Albany Gas Transition Program, large gas-use businesses, using over 30 gigajoules (GJ) of gas per year, were offered a government-funded business energy audit.

When the audits are complete, the Albany Gas Transition Project Team will provide the businesses that took part with the audit findings, potential transition pathways and confirmation of their individual funding allocation amounts.

If your large gas-use business was offered a business energy audit but did not accept it, please contact albanygastransition@deed.wa.gov.au to discuss your funding options.

Funding for large gas-use customers will be assessed on a case-by-case basis and will depend on factors such as the complexity of the conversion, the type of equipment being replaced, and the cost of the proposed solution. Funding will not be provided as a rebate and, where approved, will be paid directly to the registered trade undertaking the conversion works.

Large gas-use business customers are encouraged to begin planning as early as possible to allow sufficient time for assessments, design work, approvals, equipment procurement and installation before the gas supply is disconnected in their zone.

If you choose to proceed with a conversion option that exceeds the approved funding allocation, any costs above the approved funding amount will be your responsibility. This must be paid directly to the trade undertaking the work, as these additional costs will not be covered by the funding allocation.

To access the government funding, large businesses must follow the process that will be outlined to them once the business energy audit results and funding packages are available.

Planning your transition

First, your business will need to choose which alternative energy source to transition to, using your business energy audit to help inform your decision.

ATCO has divided the Albany gas network into zones that will be decommissioned in sequence over the next three years. Go to ATCO's website to visit the searchable map to find out when your property will be decommissioned.

As a large gas-use business, you will have the flexibility to transition before your zone's scheduled conversion period once your funding allocation has been provided. If you choose not to transition early, we will contact you when the Transition Program goes live in your zone, ahead of ATCO’s planned gas supply shutdown date for your part of the network.

Once you have selected your preferred energy solution, conversion works must be carried out by a registered trade participating in the Transition Program. All approved funding assistance will be paid directly to the registered trade undertaking the works. Participating trades will be familiar with the payment process, and a list of registered trades will be available from January 2027 onwards.

Funding will not be provided as a rebate to businesses, so it is important that you follow the Transition Program process to receive your government funding support.

Business customers are encouraged to begin planning as soon as possible to allow sufficient time for assessments, design works, approvals, equipment purchases and installation works before the gas supply is disconnected in your zone. If you are considering an all-electric solution, contact Western Power as early as possible to discuss your electricity requirements, as modifications and upgrades to your electricity connection or infrastructure may be required.

Your funding support package will be provided following the completion of your business energy audit, along with the steps to take to transition to your new energy source.’

LPG bottled gas retailers

If you are switching to LPG bottles, you need to make sure you have organised the payment and delivery of your new gas bottles before your chosen trade attends your property to complete the conversion works.

If you are installing a gas bullet or tank, you’ll need to arrange for your first tank of gas to be delivered once the tank or bullet has been installed.

There are three bottled gas suppliers in Albany. For details on pricing and subscriptions, please contact the suppliers directly.
