New Women and Babies Hospital Project: Get involved

Help shape WA's new Women and Babies Hospital Project.
Last updated:

We are committed to ensuring the New Women and Babies Hospital Project delivers facilities and services designed to meet the needs of all Western Australians.

We are engaging with staff, patients, family members, carers, visitors and the community on this project.

Consumer engagement and focus groups

A second round of community engagement has been launched with consumers and advocacy group representatives attending workshops during November.

The community sessions will focus on the benefits, challenges and opportunities and workshop practical suggestions for the delivery of this project.

These sessions follow a series of consumer focus groups workshops held in late 2022 where participants were asked to reflect on their experiences with maternity, neonatal or gynaecological care.

Consumers with a diverse range of experience who attended focus groups in 2022 have been invited back to attend this next round of community engagement.

The information collected during these sessions will be used by the health system to inform decision making.

You can register your interest in being considered for future community engagement activities here.

Community engagement

We will be seeking community input on a range of topics relating to the new hospital as the design progresses. This could include things like:

  • Development of new models of care
  • How the design and fit-out elements can enhance and improve the patient, family and visitor experience (e.g. furniture, lighting, personalisation)
  • How we ensure the hospital is accessible to everyone in the community (e.g. wayfinding signage, amenities, naming of wards/areas)
  • What public spaces look and feel like, (e.g. outdoor spaces, areas for rest and contemplation, places for spiritual and / or religious worship, landscaping)
  • What sort of sustainability initiatives you’d like to see in the new hospital

Clinical Consultation

In mid-2023 around 140 clinical staff members participated in consultation sessions.  This included staff from King Edward Memorial Hospital, Osborne Park Hospital, Perth Children’s Hospital and Fiona Stanley Hospital.

These sessions invited staff to share their views and discuss the key opportunities and challenges with the Murdoch location.

The resulting Clinical Consultation Report, which contains 19 key findings is now available.
