The department supports the sector and the community in the provision of good governance and compliance by monitoring, promoting and enforcing compliance with the Local Government Act 1995.
We review and administer a range of legislation impacting on local governments and the community including dogs, cats and cemeteries.
The department helps local governments with best practice in the sector. We do this through our regulatory functions primarily related to the administration of the Local Government Act 1995 including approvals, compliance monitoring and other statutory support.
