The 16 Days of WA campaign runs from 25 November (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) through to December 10 (Human Rights Day) each year.

In its submission to the Law Reform Commission's Review of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984, the Commission recommended the ground of domestic violence discrimination be added to the Act to provide extra support and protection to victims of domestic and family violence.

"Victims of domestic and family violence are already in vulnerable situations, so if they are being discriminated against on top of that it can become a dangerous situation for families and individuals," Dr Byrne said.

On Tuesday 29 November the Equal Opportunity Commission also participated in the Women's Safety and Wellbeing's Annual Silent Domestic Violence March at Forrest Place where the Commission's offices are located.
