Department of Planning Lands and Heritage graduate program induction 2024

When you think of an ‘induction’ day for your new job as a graduate officer in the WA public sector, you might be up for more adventure than you expect.

For the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage’s 2024 graduates it means taking part in a ‘Survivor’ TV show inspired adventure around South Perth foreshore.

The ‘Onboarder – Thrive to Survive Challenge’ included building sandcastles replicating significant heritage sites and competing in a puzzle competition blindfolded. They were all designed to enhance graduates’ creativity, teamwork and communication skills – and highlight the agency’s values.

The grads also delved into the world of planning, lands and heritage; met with different business areas to get a better understanding of what the department does; and did essential training such as in work health and safety.

They capped off the induction visiting Whiteman Park and Fremantle Prison, 2 important facilities in terms of land use and heritage that are managed by the department.

A big day all round for these new staff!

The grads were joined by 4 new staff in the department’s Gap Year Program for WA Certificate of Education school leavers.

The department is recruiting more graduates this year to start in 2025. Register your interest to be notified when applications open. The program involves rotations throughout the department that help you develop your personal leadership capabilities, grow your skills and set the foundation for a career in the public sector.
