The Local Government Australian Early Development Census (AEDC) Grants Program is funded by the Australian Government. The Department of Communities  has partnered with the Department of Education and the Western Australian Local Government Association to deliver the grants.

The grants will strengthen the capacity of LGAs to use Australian Early Development Census (AEDC) data to respond to the identified needs of children, aged 0 to 5, in their community and will support LGAs to:

  • undertake activities to support the achievement of AEDC outcomes
  • appoint an Early Years Coordinator
  • collaborate with stakeholders in the community
  • support the development of Early Years Networks
  • improve community awareness of the AEDC data and the importance of early childhood development.

The AEDC is a nationwide census that gathers information about young children's development. It provides a snapshot of children's progress at national, state/territory and community levels in five key areas of development.

Applications for the Local Government Early Childhood AEDC Grants Program close at: 2:30pm on Tuesday 5, December 2023.
