Olivia and Jack the top WA baby names for 2019

WA parents stuck to what they knew and liked when naming their babies last year, with perennially popular names making up the top ten for both boys and girls.

WA parents stuck to what they knew and liked when naming their babies last year, with perennially popular names making up the top ten for both boys and girls. Olivia reclaimed top spot for the girls while Jack once again took top honours for the boys.

The rest of the top ten names bestowed by parents State-wide in 2019 were much the same as in previous years, with more traditional names in the majority.

Other more diverse names included Aurora, Summer, Frankie and Indiana amongst the girls, and for the boys, Archer, Archie, Xavier, Arlo and Ezra.

The top 50 most popular State-wide and regional baby names are produced by the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages every year and uploaded to the Department of Justice’s website at www.bdm.justice.wa.gov.au

Girls:

  1. Olivia (third last year)
  2. Isla (fifth)
  3. Charlotte (first)
  4.  Ava (joint first with Charlotte last year)
  5. Amelia (fourth)
  6. Grace (seventh)
  7. Mia (second)
  8. Harper (sixth)
  9. Ella (12th)
  10. Lucy (20thst)

Boys:

  1. Jack (second last year)
  2. Noah (third)      
  3. Oliver (first)
  4. Lucas (10th)
  5. Leo (fifth)
  6. James (sixth)
  7. William (fourth)
  8. Thomas (seventh)
  9. Mason (12th)
  10. Charlie (ninth)

Parents have 60 days to register a birth in Western Australia. Registration is free.
