An open-ended recruitment campaign to attract 458 new Prison Officers is underway, having attracted more than 2420 applicants.

Part of the campaign includes recruiting people in the regions and training them locally – in Kalgoorlie, Geraldton, Bunbury, Albany and Geraldton – to help regional prisons retain staff. New drug dog handlers and drug dogs have also graduated in 2019 and for the first time a dog and handler are based at Eastern Goldfields Regional Prison to help in the war against drugs and contraband coming into prisons.

The new Officers come from a diverse range of backgrounds and former careers.
