Amelia was most popular girls name in the South West/Great Southern, Henry and Isabella topped names in the Kimberley/Pilbara/Gascoyne, Arthur and Grace came first in the Wheatbelt/Midwest, Noah and Grace were number one in Goldfields-Esperance and Hudson claimed top spot for boys in Peel.

Despite their streak, Isla and Oliver still have a long way to go to catch up with Margaret and John, WA’s most popular names on record.

John was most popular boys name for 21 consecutive years from 1930, when RBDM published records begin, to 1950 and held a place in the top 10 for 42 years in a row.

There were 32,282 births registered in WA in 2023 (between 1 January 2023 and 31 December).

Families have 60 days from the birth of a child to lodge registration with the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages.
