The mini-documentary is part of the not-for-profit’s wider ‘Slow Down in Our Town’ project, made possible by a $25,000 Road Safety Community Project Grant. The project aims to inspire and empower other local communities in the South West, in particular nearby Donnybrook, to look at how community-led placemaking can result in low cost traffic calming and speed reduction initiatives. These initiatives support safer streets, prompting drivers to slow down while travelling through town centres, making local communities safer for everyone.

As part of the project, the Donnybrook Town Team will come together early next year for the ‘Donnybrook Do-Over’. The community-led event will be facilitated by the Town Team Movement with a focus on practical activities the community can undertake to reduce speed on the main street.

Road Safety Commissioner Adrian Warner said he was pleased to support the ‘Slow Down in Our Town’ project through the Road Safety Community Grants Program.

“I want conversations about how we can make our streets, our roads and our towns safer to be taking place all over WA,” Mr Warner said.

“The ‘Slow Down in our Town’ project is a great way to start these conversations and get people thinking about how to make every journey safe.

“Placemaking such as murals, parklets and tree plantings can all be effective ways of reducing speed and I am excited to see what local communities can achieve as a team.”
