The lecture, which is held in the same week as IDaHOBIT Day, is now in its tenth year and was held as a virtual event for the first time.

WA Commissioner for Equal Opportunity, Dr John Byrne said this was of great benefit not only to people in WA who were not able to attend physical events, but the entire country.

"The virtual event meant guests could join us from all over Australia to listen to Ro speak about what Victoria had achieved in the area of gender and sexual diversity and hopefully inspire other states and territories to achieve more for this cohort," he said.

He said right now in WA the Law Reform Commission is reviewing the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (the Act), and the Commission would like to see one of those reforms include a gender identity ground.

"At the moment the Act only has a gender history ground, which does not cover those transitioning gender or those, like Ro, who do not identify as male or female and this is not adequate," Dr Byrne said.
