The Gap Year Program

The Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage’s innovative Gap Year Program offers Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) high school leavers the opportunity to develop their potential in an agency that plays a leading role in shaping the future of Western Australia’s cities, towns and regions. The Department serves the community by overseeing and delivering a variety of exciting and challenging projects in the State’s planning, lands and heritage portfolios.

The 12-month program provides paid work experience and professional development support with certification through a Registered Training Organisation. Successful applicants will be placed in their area of interest and develop a generalist set of transferable skills and knowledge by working with experts in various fields.

The Department welcomes applications from those located across Western Australia. If relocation support is required for applicants, this can be discussed during the application process.

Keep an eye out for advertisements and announcements about the Gap Year Program from your schools and local Jobs and Skills Centres.
