An asbestos assessor licence is required when carrying out air monitoring during Class A asbestos removal work at a workplace.
Before you apply
1. You'll need
- Proof of identity such as a driver licence or passport
- Evidence of training (CPCCDE5001 OR a tertiary qualification in occupational health and safety, industrial hygiene, science, building construction, or environmental health.)
- Evidence of six jobs over last three years.
- Each job must have:
- a completed copy of clearance certificates;
- a completed copy of air monitoring report(s), or similar, that state the calculated airborne fibre concentration results during the asbestos removal, and at the clearance inspection; and
- a completed copy of Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS)
- Note: If an applicant is already an approved nominated supervisor working under a Class A licence (any state or territory), you don’t need to provide examples of experience. Approval may be granted based on their compliance history. If this applies, attach proof of their existing approval.
- Each job must have:
- Two (2) written references to verify the work experience - physically signed and dated.
- An
acceptable photograph for your licence card (clear passport style image of head and shoulders against a white background, no hats or sunglasses).

What happens next
Licence applications typically take 6-8 weeks to process. WorkSafe will:
- Assess your application and decide if an asbestos removal licence can be issued. We will contact you if we need more information to process your application.
- If you withdraw your application or are refused a licence, the processing fee will not be refunded.
- If granted, we will add your licence details to the list of licensed asbestos assessors and WA Online Licence Search.
- Asbestos removal licences are valid for 5 years.
