Department of Training and Workforce Development Graduate Program

Combining formal public sector learning and development with practical experience working on real-world projects

About the program

Our department supports Western Australia’s training system to transform lives and communities by helping Western Australians to develop the skills and capabilities to overcome barriers to training and employment.

We work with TAFE colleges, private training organisations and other service providers to develop innovative job and training programs, to ensure Western Australians have the right skills to work in emerging and priority industries.

We’re an equal opportunity employer and encourage people with diverse backgrounds and lived experiences to join us, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, culturally and linguistically diverse people, people with disability, youth, women and people of diverse sexualities and genders.

The department offers a hybrid model of graduate opportunities including a 12 month rotational graduate program and a number of specialist graduate positions.

Rotational Graduate Program

Our rotational graduate program offers 2 graduates the opportunity to contribute to challenging projects across the business, where fresh thinking and digital skills are highly valued! Over the 12 month rotation, you will work on 2 projects with teams that share their deep knowledge and experience and are committed to your growth and development.

You will be linked to our Young Professionals Program Committee and take part in events throughout the year including the chance to hear from our senior leaders and participate in the Director General for a Day program, lunch and learns, and other professional development targeted to young professionals.

Specialist Graduate Roles

Our specialist graduate roles are in the Policy, Planning and Innovation and Corporate directorates, and are advertised as vacancies arise. In our Policy, Planning and Innovation directorate, you will gain accelerated exposure to policy and program design, participate in consultation with stakeholders in industry and the community, research state workforce data to produce intelligence and insights, and work on initiatives that maximise employment and training outcomes for Aboriginal Western Australians.

The Corporate directorate graduates work either in Human Resources or Finance. Human Resource graduates support strategic workforce plans, health and wellbeing initiatives, and professional development programs, and our Finance graduate works across financial accounting, budgeting and facilities management. These roles may be advertised as temporary 12 month contracts or as permanent opportunities.
