Who we are

The Department of Treasury and Finance works to support the Government to achieve its priorities and whole-of-government targets. As the principal economic and financial advisor, we provide leadership and strategic advice and influence to support the delivery of services and outcomes for the benefit of Western Australia.


What we do is integral to the Government’s decision making processes about where and how to spend taxpayer’s money to ensure Western Australians have access to quality services on a financially sustainable basis.

We lead procurement and leverage our buying power to secure products and services for government, achieving value for money for WA.

We collect revenue to fund government services and administer payment of grants and subsidies to the WA community.

About the program

The Department of Treasury and Finance Graduate Program is an 18 month structured development pathway designed to launch your career in a high performing central agency. Over 3 (6 month) rotations, you’ll gain hands on experience in the diverse areas of the department.

Our program applies your academic learning, accelerates your skills, and challenges you with high impact projects. It provides you with meaningful work from day one, supported learning, and the opportunity to make a genuine impact on Western Australia’s economic, social and environmental outcomes.

By the end of the program, dependent on performance, you could progress into roles such as Accounting Analyst, Budget Analyst, Data Scientist, Economic Analyst, Economic Modeller, Financial Analyst, Policy Officer, or Project Officer.

What we’re looking for in applicants

We’re looking for curious, resilient team players who embrace complex challenges and are passionate about making a real difference. As we value diverse thinking and offer a wide range of career pathways, we welcome graduates from all disciplines. 

To be considered for this program you must:

  • have successfully completed a tertiary degree between December 2024 and December 2026
  • demonstrate high academic achievement (weighted average mark of 70% or above) at the time you lodge your application
  • be an Australian Citizen or an Australian permanent resident at the time you lodge your application
  • be available to start the program in mid-January 2027.
