2024 WA Seniors Card Photographic competition

  1. The Golden Lens Terms and ConditionsThe WA Seniors Card photographic competition “The Golden Lens” is open to valid and current WA Seniors Card members only.
  2. All information detailing how to enter forms part of these terms and conditions. Submission of an entry will be taken to mean acceptance of these terms and conditions.
  3. Entries of a photograph no more than 3MB each must include:
  • the entrant's name (including preferred name)
  • WA Seniors Card number
  • email address
  • telephone number
  • category assignment of each image
  • image title and brief description of each image (refer to point 10 below for further information)
  1. All entries must be received by 17 March 2024 and there is a limit of four photos per person. If more than four photos are received, only the first four photos received will be eligible.
  2. To enter please email goldenlens@communities.wa.gov.au addressing the requirements in point 3 and attach the photo/s. Please note, hard copy photographs will not be accepted. Submissions need to be received in the correct orientation to display correctly in a Facebook gallery (refer to point 8 below). Photo orientation cannot be altered once the image has been submitted.
  3. One winner in each of the four categories will be chosen by the judging panel. Finalists and winning entrants may be asked to resubmit entries for printing purposes (a higher quality image may be required). Winners will be announced in May 2024.
  4. The judging panel will comprise representatives of the Department of Communities, Council on The Ageing WA, Seniors Recreation Council of WA, Have a Go News and other invited judges. The panel decision is final and no correspondence shall be entered into. The panel reserve the right to redirect images into another category if deemed more appropriate and to select additional finalists and/or winners outside of the set categories.
  5. Each entrant agrees that their entry may be subject to a People’s Choice vote, whereby people can view all shortlisted entries via a Facebook post and then vote for their favourite image by Liking the actual image. The image with the most individual Likes will be determined as the winner of the People’s Choice award.
  6. The winner and runner up of the People’s Choice award will receive prizes as detailed on the WA Seniors Card website. 
  7. To participate in this photographic competition, entrants must submit an image file with an image title and a blurb of no more than 100 words. Photos should be of suitable quality and resolution for print publication (aspect ratios 1:1, 4:3, 5:4, 6:4, or 7:6). Each entrant assures the Department of Communities that: (a) all entered photographs are the work of the individual submitting them (b) they are the owner of the photograph and description; (c) the entrant has the permission of the people shown in the entered photograph to include them in the photograph and that they have no objections to the photograph being published or used in any medium for any purpose; and (d) entering the photograph and description into this competition on the basis that the photographs may then be published or used for any other purpose, will not breach any person's rights (including copyright or moral rights).
  8. Each entrant agrees that their name and the photos entered in the competition may be reproduced, published, transmitted, or otherwise communicated to the public in association with the further use and reproduction of the photographs.
  9. Entries must be the work of the individual submitting them (must be a valid WA Seniors Card member). It is the responsibility of each entrant to ensure that no element of their entry or its publication as contemplated by these terms infringes the copyright of any third party or any laws. Entries will be judged on which are the most original, interesting, and appropriate for publications.
  10. This is a photography competition and, as such, any entered images must have been entirely captured with a camera (digital, film or phone camera) by the entrant. Images created by artificial intelligence using image-creation programs may not be entered. Images edited using Generative AI in programs such as Photoshop, Topaz Photo AI, etc, where pixels are added that did not exist in the original photo, may not be entered. Department of Communities reserve the right to request original image files to verify the photographic integrity of any submitted entry. Failure to produce original image files, including previous and subsequent images captured during a shoot, may result in disqualification. Department of Communities reserve the right to disqualify an image if the photographic integrity of a submitted entry cannot be adequately verified. Any post-production and editing must be the work of the entrant.
  11. Copyright in all submissions to the competition remains with the respective entrants. However, each entrant agrees to allow publication of any or all entries in any Department of Communities publication, its websites and/or in any promotional, marketing or advertising material.
  12. Should the submitted images be used in any future Department of Communities publications, the name of the person submitting it may be acknowledged in the publication if suitable.
  13. Illegible, incomplete or defaced entries will not be accepted. No responsibility can be accepted for lost entries and proof of sending will not be accepted as proof of receipt. Entries must not be sent through agencies or third parties.
  14. All entries may be used in any publication or digital platform produced or funded by the Department of Communities, at any time.
  15. WA Seniors Card reserves the right to amend these terms and conditions at any time. Any amendments will be published on the WA Seniors Card website.

All entrants release the Department of Communities from any and all causes of action, losses, liability, damage, expense (including legal expenses) cost or charge suffered, sustained or in any way incurred by the winner as a result of any loss or damage to any physical property of the winner, or any injury to or death of any person arising out of, or related to, or in any way connected with the competition.
