Before a new regulatory proposal is created an agency is required to consult with stakeholders in accordance with the Better Regulation Principles.
A series of consultations have occurred to inform the development of the AES framework, including:
- Electricity Retail Licence and exemptions review, 2020
- Electricity Industry Amendment (AES) Bill 2023
- Consultation on regulation of Embedded Networks, 2024
- Consultation on regulation of On-Site power supply services, 2024
- A Voluntary Embedded Networks Code of Practice in 2024, giving providers an opportunity to test the draft Code of Practice obligations and provide feedback.
Following the decision by the Minister for Energy and Decarbonisation to regulate embedded networks and on-site power supply services under the AES framework, Energy Policy WA has recently consulted on:
- AES Prescribing Regulations, outlining who needs to register under the AES framework and who is exempt,
- Registration Fees, providing information on the fees AES registration holders will be required to pay.
Energy Policy WA will be providing information on the Code of Practice in the first half of 2026, outlining the customer protections providers will be required to oblige with.
