Call for nominations to the Heritage Council of Western Australia

The Minister for Heritage has called for nominations from experienced and qualified individuals with knowledge or experience in heritage matters to join the Heritage Council of Western Australia.

The Heritage Council is the State’s expert body on matters concerning places of cultural heritage significance other than places solely connected with Aboriginal tradition or culture or comprise only the natural environment. 

The Council consists of nine members. There are six vacancies to be filled with the successful nominees commencing in January 2024.

To be eligible for membership, nominees must have demonstrated knowledge of or experience in heritage matters. Consideration of knowledge, experience, skills and qualifications in the following disciplines can also be taken into account:

  • Aboriginal cultural heritage; 
  • archaeology;
  • architecture; 
  • construction; 
  • engineering; 
  • governance;
  • heritage conservation or interpretation; 
  • history;
  • horticulture; 
  • landscape architecture;
  • law; 
  • local government; 
  • property ownership, development or marketing;
  • tourism; 
  • urban and regional planning.

Applicants should be prepared to make a substantial commitment in terms of time and expertise to help identify, conserve and ensure the sensitive development of the State’s heritage places. 

All submissions will be considered. Appointments will be made for a term of up to four years. 

Council members will be remunerated and, where applicable, travelling costs will be reimbursed. Council members who are public sector employees are not eligible for reimbursement. Remuneration and allowances for Council members are determined by the Minister on the recommendation of the Public Sector Commission.
