With many students returning to school, there will be an increase in traffic, both motorists and people riding and walking, to start Term 2.

“I remind drivers and other road users to be extra vigilant from Wednesday as students head back to WA classrooms,” said Road Safety Commissioner Adrian Warner.

“Children can be more unpredictable around the roads, especially with the added excitement of seeing their school, friends and teachers again after the school holidays and COVID-19 distancing measures.

“Parents need to drop students off outside the schools due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so extra care is required to ensure the kids have a safe return to school.”

Parents are also encouraged to discuss safe road use with their children, including reminders about wearing helmets if riding or scooting to school and how to safely cross the road.

School zones will also be in operation from Wednesday, which means the 40km/h speed limit will apply between 7.30am and 9am and from 2.30pm and 4pm.
