Kim Fitzpatrick, Creative Director and Art Glass Artist, Tradition Stained Glass

Kim Fitzpatrick has made a profound contribution to Western Australia’s heritage through his dedication to stained glass conservation and mentoring the next generation of artisans.

With over 40 years’ experience, Kim is one of the few remaining professionals in Western Australia to have fully mastered traditional stained-glass techniques, and he actively ensures their survival through hands-on training and education.

Kim has restored stained glass in some of the state’s most significant heritage buildings, using historically accurate methods and conservation ethics aligned with Burra Charter principles. His greatest legacy is his commitment to preserving and sharing his craft. Through apprenticeships, studio placements and workshops, Kim has trained numerous emerging artists, many of whom now work in heritage conservation.

His studio remains a rare hub for traditional stained-glass training, offering authentic materials, techniques and mentorship. Kim also shares his expertise through public talks, school visits and community events, inspiring broader appreciation for this artform.

By investing in people as much as projects, Kim ensures that stained-glass conservation remains a living tradition - preserved, practised, and passed on.
