Australian interstate applicants:
Option 1:
If you already have a licence issued by another Australian State or Territory or New Zealand and you want to transfer your licence to WA, refer to mutual recognition.
Option 2:
If you have qualifications (but do not have a licence) issued from another Australian State or Territory or New Zealand and have been issued a Technical Skills Assessment Record (TSAR) you can apply for a Electrical Workers permit to complete gap training required to become a licensed Electrician in Western Australia.
International applicants:
Option 1: (if you are currently overseas)
- Contact a Trades Recognition approved Registered Training Organisation to have your trade skills assessed and be issued the Offshore Technical Skills Record (OTSR) endorsed Electrician (General and Special Class).
- Apply for an Electrical Workers permit to complete gap training in Western Australia.
- You'll need:
- A copy of an Offshore Technical Skills Record (OTSR) issued by a Trades Recognition approved Registered Training Organisation in the trade of ‘Electrician - General’
- Proof of ID
- A police check (dated within the past 3 months)
- Once you receive your permit, you need to complete the Australian Minimum Context Gap Training course OR Electrical Trades Licensing Gap training course through an Approved Registered Training Organisation.
- Once completed, you can apply for a full Electrical licence.
Option 2: (if you are already residing in Australia)
- Contact a Registered Training Organisation to have your trade skills assessed and be issued the Technical Skill Assessment Record (TSAR).
- Apply a Electrical Workers permit to complete gap training in Western Australia.
- You'll need:
- A copy of a Technical Skills Assessment Record issued by an Approved RTO in the trade of Electrician in the last 3 years
- Proof of ID
- A police check (dated within the past 3 months)
- Once you receive your permit, you need to complete the Electrical Trades Licensing Gap training course through an Approved RTO.
- Once completed, you can apply for a full Electrical licence.
