Apply for accreditation to assess high risk work

Application for a new high risk work assessor accreditation.

Accredited assessors are required to have a high level of practical experience in the class of work they are assessing. They are also required to have completed training in how to conduct training and assessments.

Before you apply

Step 1. Complete training

You can apply for an accredited high risk work assessor licence if you:

  • Have obtained the required qualification in assessment, Certificate IV in Workplace assessment and training
  • Hold a current HRWL in the required class
  • Are able to demonstrate:
    • at least 1 year of full time (1,500 hours/40 weeks) experience (conducting work, direct supervision, training, consulting or advising) in the last 5 years
    • OR a significant amount of experience more than 5 years ago and evidence of maintenance of competency in the last 5 years; or
  • Hold an equivalent accreditation from another State or Territory

Step 2. Gather your application documents

  You'll need:

  • A current high risk work licence number
  • A copy of your Statement of Attainment from a Registered Training Organisation for either:
    • TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
    • OR TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
    • OR A diploma or higher level in adult education
  • A completed application form including a statement of experience signed by a referee showing you've completed:
    • at least 1 year of full time (1,500 hours/40 weeks) experience (conducting work, direct supervision, training, consulting or advising) in the last 5 years
    • OR a significant amount of experience more than 5 years ago and evidence of maintenance of competency in the last 5 years
  • A letter from an RTO (for each class) on company letterhead and signed by a representative of the RTO confirming you will be:
    • engaged to complete high risk work competency assessments of the relevant class/es in association with the RTO delivering the training in WA.
    • trained in the use of the relevant National Assessment Instruments and Notice of Assessment book for the relevant class/es.
  • An acceptable photograph for your licence card (clear passport style image of head and shoulders against a white background, no hats or sunglasses).
  • Visa/Mastercard for fee payment.

What happens next

Licence applications typically take 4–6 weeks to process. WorkSafe will review your application and contact you by email if we need more information to process your application.

If the application requirements have been met, your application will be granted and your licence details will be added to the Online licence search public register. You will receive an email notifying you that it has been granted along with: 

  • digital copies of the National Assessment Instruments relevant to the classes of HRW for which your accreditation is granted
  • a copy of your accreditation document

We will also post to you: 

  • your assessor’s identification card
  • 2 x Notice of Assessment books.

Conditions of accreditation

Accredited assessors must comply with the provisions of the Work Health and Safety Act 2020, Work Health and Safety (General) Regulations 2022, and the conditions of accreditation.

Compliance requirements

Notifications

Accredited assessors are required to notify WorkSafe before any assessment is conducted. Notifications are required to be made using an online form.

Maintenance of experience

Assessors must maintain their competency to assess each class of work they are accredited in.

Accreditation will not be renewed if competency is not maintained.
