Volunteering

Volunteers create, support and sustain organisations delivering services and activities that are essential to our communities.  People that volunteer freely give their time and labour, benefitting not only their communities, but building connections to like-minded individuals. 

The Department partners with the community services sector to develop volunteer opportunities and encourage and assist people to become involved in volunteering. We deliver the WA Volunteer Service Awards, provide more than $1.5 million per annum in funding and grant programs and develop resources to assist volunteering organisations, among a range of other initiatives.

Volunteering Strategy and WA Government Action Plan

The WA Volunteering Strategy provides a guide for Government and community to work together to strengthen volunteering in WA.

Thank a Volunteer Day

International Volunteer Day, known as Thank a Volunteer Day in Western Australia, is celebrated annually on 5 December. Communities offers grants to support community events and activities each year.

Volunteering Development Services

Volunteering Development Services (also known as Volunteer Resource Centres) are located around Western Australia and provide resources and support to potential volunteers in their community.

The WA Volunteer Service Awards program recognises long-standing volunteers who have served 25+ or 50+ years of service.

Communities provides funding to peak body Volunteering WA to deliver a variety of programs that support volunteering in our State.

Volunteer National Police Certificate Program

A subsidy is available to eligible Western Australian volunteering organisations to provide their volunteers with a National Police Check.
