METRONET Social and Affordable Housing and Jobs Package

The Department of Communities is aligning its investment in social and affordable housing with METRONET to help build liveable and connected communities.
Last updated:

Through partnerships with the private, public and not-for-profit sectors, the Department of Communities (Communities) is delivering its $394 million METRONET Social and Affordable Housing and Jobs Package.

The Package addresses the State’s need for additional social and affordable housing in locations identified in Stage 1 of the METRONET program, and supports infill density targets.

Communities has aligned its housing construction and redevelopment activity with the State Government’s investment in METRONET to:

  • Develop inclusive medium to high-density apartment living options around METRONET train station precincts and transit-aligned locations and stations.
  • Prioritise the development of social and affordable homes in central locations, so that people on lower incomes have ready access to jobs, services, transport and amenity.
  • Contribute to housing quality, choice and diversity around METRONET train station precincts.

The Package particularly focuses on developing and redeveloping a large portion of smaller scale sites, located within one kilometre of new METRONET or existing train stations, with low-density apartments.
