Across Western Australia, there is an estimated 320,000 people who provide unpaid personal care for family and friends.

Carers make an invaluable social and economic contribution to Western Australia.

The care they provide reduces the demand for and dependence on paid care and health and community services sector.

The estimated annual replacement value of carers to the Australian economy is $77.9 billion.

Recognising and supporting carers is critical to the future of carers, their families and community wellbeing.

It requires effort by all levels of government, non-government organisations, and the private sector to do what we can to support carers.

About the Council

The Carers Advisory Council are appointed under the Carers Recognition Act 2004 (the Act).

Position description

Position: Member, The Carers Advisory Council established under the Carers Recognition Act 2004.

Term: Two years.

Duties: Members are required to attend bi-monthly meetings or as required and be active and willing to participate in recommending and providing advice to the Minister. Regional travel is also undertaken as part of the duties of the Council.

Remuneration: Half day $228; Full day $351; and by prior agreement: Respite at $20 to $45/hour as applicable; Travel Allowance as applicable.

  • The completion of an expression of interest does not guarantee a place on the Carers Advisory Council.
  • Applicants may be called upon in the future to confirm your interest in a formal recruitment process for any vacancies that may arise on the Carers Advisory Council.
  • Formal applications will be considered, and a decision will be made by the Minister for Community Services, the Carers Advisory Council, and approved by the Ministers for Health and Disability.
  • All applicants will be notified of the outcome.
