Shelter

When looking for accommodation, you may prefer to share a house or live on your own. If you’re moving to a new area you might want to find something short term while you get to know your new surroundings and decide where you would like to live long term.

Many places have conditions you must agree to if you want to live there, and you may be required to disclose that you have been released from prison.

Your best chance of finding something to suit you is to start planning well before your release.

Renting privately

You can find private rental properties on websites such as Gumtree, realestate or domain or by getting in touch with your local real estate agent.

Private rental properties can include a house, flat or caravan park.

There are upfront costs with private rentals. Before you move in you will have to pay rent in advance and a bond. You will get the bond back when you leave the property in the same condition as you found it.

Sharing a house with others is the cheapest way to rent and if you live further from the centre of town properties are usually cheaper. Access to public transport will make working and moving around easier
