Meet Jack

After working in retail as a teenager, Jack enlisted in the Australian Defence Force. He was awarded a Bronze Commendation (Soldiers Medallion) for his efforts in Operation Bushfire Assist in 2020 and a Commanding Officers Commendation for his role in Operation Resolute, which protects Australia’s borders and offshore maritime interests.

In 2021, Jack transitioned from full time service to facilitate moving home to Perth. He began training as a Prison Officer in January 2022 and graduated as a Special Operations Group Officer in early 2023.

Jack says among the many upsides to the job is the fact that every day is different.

“The role is always evolving, we have to adapt to change and that keeps things really interesting,” he says.

One day he’ll be conducting perimeter surveillance at a maximum security prison, the next he could be escorting a high-profile prisoner to court or responding to a custodial emergency.

A fitness fanatic, Jack reckons joining SOG was the perfect way to combine his passions.

“We have access to the gym at work and I train every day, so it doesn’t get much better than that!”

Jack says if you like keeping physically and mentally active, enjoy being part of a team and have a spirit for community service, you should consider applying for a role with the Special Operations Group.

Known for his constant supply of “Dad jokes,” Jack enjoys bringing comic relief to his colleagues, insisting that a sense of humour is an important part of any job.
