If you’re an innovative and forward-thinking individual who values collaboration and wants to be providing governance to local communities, regulating racing, gaming and liquor activities, protecting tenants and consumers, monitoring compliance, protecting workers’ health and safety, or rolling out new technology to provide better customer service and achieve success, then the Department of Local Government, Industry Regulation and Safety (LGIRS) is the agency for you.

Our roles

The department plays a unique role in supporting a safe, fair and responsible future for Western Australia through communities, business and industry.

We are a diverse department of more than 1900 people and lead with integrity, deliver on commitments, strive for excellence, and look for better ways of doing things.

Underlying everything we do are our values of being respectful, responsive, forward-thinking, transparent, fair, and ethical – these are driven by our staff who make our department a success.

We offer a range of career opportunities across a broad variety of work areas, including:

Current opportunities

General advertised vacancies are advertised on Jobs.wa.gov.au and the department's Job board, normally for a period of 10 working days, although some specialised technical vacancies can have longer advertising periods.

You can register on Jobs.wa.gov.au to receive an email when vacancies are advertised so you don't miss out on any opportunities to work with us.

To reach a wider audience, we may advertise vacancies in regional newspapers, industry-specific websites, Aboriginal job boards, university sites, LinkedIn or Seek.

The department also has a Temporary employment register for people interested in applying for short term contract employment opportunities with the department. Anyone can apply to the register, and you can indicate the type of work you are interested in.

After lodging your resume, you may be contacted to attend an interview if a suitable vacancy becomes available. Your resume will stay on our temporary register for three months, after which time, you will need to reapply.
