Region Planning Schemes

A region scheme provides a statutory mechanism to implement strategic region plans, coordinate major infrastructure and set aside land for regional open space and other community purposes. They are most common in areas experiencing major growth pressures.

There are three region schemes in operation in Western Australia - the Metropolitan Region Scheme, Peel Region Scheme and Greater Bunbury Region Scheme.

Metropolitan Region Scheme

Metropolitan Region Scheme

The Metropolitan Region Scheme (MRS) guides land use and provides the legal basis for planning in the Perth metropolitan region, dividing it into broad zones and reservations.
Peel Region Scheme

Peel Region Scheme

The Peel Region Scheme (PRS) guides land use and provides the legal basis for planning in the Peel Region. The area includes the local government boundaries of the City of Mandurah and the shires of Murray and Waroona.
Greater Bunbury Region Scheme

Greater Bunbury Region Scheme

The Greater Bunbury Region Scheme (GBRS) guides land use and provides the legal basis for planning in the Greater Bunbury region. The area includes the local government boundaries of the City of Bunbury, Shires of Capel, Dardanup and Harvey.

Region Scheme Amendment Process

An amendment to the Region Planning Scheme changes the zoning or reservation of land to allow for a different land use.
